What you will need:
– Leaves that you have collected
– Paper or card
– Crayons
– Flower Fairy Postcards (optional)
Skills this activity develops:
– Leaf identification
– Memory
– Pen grip
– Fine motor skills
Method:
1. Collect your leaves and gather your resources together.
2. Place the leaf on a flat surface with the vein side facing upwards. This is to ensure that we get the best results.
3. Using your crayon of choice, trace the shape of the leaf (it’s easiest to start from the stem) and then fill in the inside. You’ll start to see the pattern and border appear through the paper.
4. Write the name of the tree on either the front or the back, depending on whether you would like to use them as flashcards or for decoration.
Game ideas:
– You can try and match them to the real leaves (and/or Flower Fairy cards if you have them).
– You could make two of each card and use them to play pairs.
– You can use them as flashcards to test yourself on your leaf identification.
