Ferndale Community School Transition Project

Ferndale Community School decided that their Transition programme for 2015 was going to be even more innovative and fun. With 2 weeks of activities planned to engage the Year 6 children of Darran Park, Maerdy, Penrhys, Tylorstown and Tonypandy Primaries, we were asked if we could assist.

Working together with the Head of Year 7 we created 2 days of activities which would help the 105 children begin working as a team and bonding as individuals ahead of their big move in September.

The children were an absolute credit to themselves and their schools as they showed enthusiasm and energy whilst maintaining their normal high levels of behaviour and respect.

The competitiveness of the children during the orienteering challenge was only matched by their teachers who were desperate to find all markers, answer the questions and guess the mystery word.

Mud Day challenges saw the 105 children again working in their groups to celebrate International Mud Day by rotating through 5 activities which required the children to express their Technology, Art, Design and Science “skills”.  It is fair to say that the children had an absolutely fantastic time working together.

We really enjoyed having everyone from the various schools and look forward to bigger and better transition programmes next year.
