Forest School is a proven pedagogical methodology and one which has been adopted extensively throughout Scandinavia where it has become a key element of Early Years provision.

Forest School provides a unique way of creating a child centred learning environment which fosters independence and self esteem in children through involvement in stimulating outdoor learning activities that enhance physical, emotional, social and cognitive development.

Our 9/10 day course involves:
- 5 days practical skills & underpinning theoretical knowledge development (27,28 Sept & 1, 2, 3 Oct)
- 2 day Practical Skills Assessment (15/16 Oct)
- 2 day Outdoor/Forest School First Aid course (12/13 Nov)
- 1 day Outdoor Food Hygiene (1st Oct)
- 1/2 day Talking & Thinking Floorbooks CPD (3rd Oct)
- Study Visit to undertake observation at Dare Valley Nature Kindergarten (28th Sept).
- 2 optional tutorial sessions ( run every 3 mths)
- Theory is completed via our E-Learning system and can be completed at own pace (submission in 10 months).
- Most of each day is spent in the outdoors, please come prepared.
If you already hold a current 2 day first aid and /or a food hygiene certificate we can reduce your training by 1-3 days (6 days total).
This course is intended to provide the skills and knowledge required to set up and deliver safe and effective Forest School programmes and for those who wish to become a Forest School Leader.
This qualification is composed of 5 modules of learning.
Topics include:
Unit 1: Woodland structure, identification of flora and fauna, and sustainable woodland management at Forest School.
Unit 2: Deliver, assess and evaluate a Forest School programme.
Unit 3: Application of learning and development theory, understanding of impact of behaviour to learning and development, holistic learning and development at Forest School.
Unit 4: The development of Forest School ethos supported by policies and procedures and understanding the ecological impact when planning a Forest School Programme.
Unit 5: Facilitating a range of woodland skills, including campfire management appropriate to a Forest School Programme.
Assessment tasks will result in each candidate producing a portfolio of evidence meeting each assessment criteria in each unit.
